(More customer reviews)This is a criminology text, but fairly easy to follow. Basic criminology theories are reviewed here, as well as the authors' theories as to why girls have been left out of past juvenile deviant studies. They go on to hypothesize why girls have been overlooked, and point out the crime rate for girls has not "exploded" just recently, but has remained relatively stable with their boy counterparts. A great book to help anyone who works with kids, especially girls, who seem to have few alternatives once within the system.

This award-winning text was the first book devoted solely to the topic of female delinquency and the treatment of young girls by the juvenile justice system. It sheds new light on the special problems of delinquent girls by taking into account what it is like to grow up female in a patriarchal society. Based on extensive and original research, the text provides compelling firsthand accounts as well as solid research and theory.
